Kombu is a family run organic grocery and local produce store based on the Coffs Coast, close to Coffs Harbour. We run the business as a social enterprise where social and environmental bottom lines are considered as important as the financial bottom line. We are proud to sell only 100% natural food at Kombu. Kombu is located on Gumbaynggirr country. We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we are based, and pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.

We get local organic produce arriving in our Bellingen store daily direct from Coffs Coast, Dorrigo and Bellingen growers.

The Store

Kombu Wholefoods opened in Bellingen on the Mid North Coast of NSW on 26th September 2004. Opening initially on Hyde Street the store moved in early 2012 to larger premises at the end of Church Street, Bellingen.

Owners Kevin and Lowanna Doye arrived in Bellingen after two years in Sydney. Before that they spent 18 months travelling by bicycle from Oxford, UK to Sydney, Australia, to highlight the impact of air travel on the environment. In the process they wrote numerous articles and won an award for outstanding achievement from the Australian Geographic Society. Kevin and Lowanna now live in Bellingen with their four children.

Lowanna and Kevin run Kombu as a social enterprise where environmental and social impacts of the business (including the products we sell) is considered equally as important as the usual financial considerations. To that end they also run the business along not-for-profit lines with any profits at the end of the year going back into the business and into the wider community.
